Treasure Island
Jules Eckert Goodman adapted Robert Louis Stevenson's popular novel with the intention of presenting it as a Christmas treat for children, but the adaptation proved so popular that it ran for 205 performances at the Punch and Judy Theatre, where it opened on 1 December 1915. With music by Maurice Rumsey, Treasure Island was produced and directed by Charles Hopkins, with Edward Emery codirecting, and featuring Hopkins's wife as young Jim Hawkins searching for pirate treasure and contending with the duplici-tous pirate, Long John Silver. Treasure Island had a long life on stages in numerous adaptations and motion picture incarnations.
