The vehicle written by Clyde Fitch for Nat C. Goodwin and his wife Maxine Elliott was presented in London and various American cities before opening at New York's Knickerbocker Theatre on 25 December 1899. Some good comedy and a well-liked cast, including Minnie Dupree, were not enough to save this much-anticipated piece from sinking into predictable melodrama.
