Meretseger
Snake goddess of Thebes. She was worshipped primarily by the royal workmen at Deir el-Medina, no doubt to avoid the dangers of snakebites. She was sometimes represented as a woman with a snake’s head. Meretseger was identified with el-Qorn, the highest mountain peak on the west bank of the Nile opposite Thebes.
