Aniello
Aniello m
Italian: a vernacular variant of the learned form Agnello, from Church Latin Agnellus, a diminutive of agnus lamb. The Paschal Lamb was a particularly important symbol to the early Christians, and so the medieval Latin name was quite common. St Agnellus (d. c.596), abbot of San Gaudioso, is one of the patrons of Naples, and this name has enjoyed some currency there as a result, but it is otherwise not common.
