Armin
Armin m
German: a modern revival of an ancient Germanic name, mentioned in the form Arminius by the Roman historian Tacitus. Arminius (d. AD 21) was a chief of a Germanic tribe called the Cherusci, who in AD 9 inflicted a tremendous defeat on the Roman armies at the Teutoburgerwald, so that they abandoned any serious further attempts to extend their influence east of the Rhine. The name, which is probably etymologically identical with HERMANN (SEE Hermann), enjoyed a vogue during the period of National Socialism, with its emphasis on German military achievements.
