Thaddeus m
Latin form of a New Testament name, the byname used to refer to one of Christ's lesser-known apostles, whose given name was Lebbaeus (Matthew 10: 3). It is of uncertain origin. It may be a Greek spelling of an Aramaic version of a short form of a Greek name, perhaps Theodōros ‘gift of God’ (see THEODORE (SEE Theodore)) or Theodotos ‘given by God’. In Ireland this has been used as an Anglicized form of TADHG (SEE Tadhg).
Short form: English, Irish: Tad.
Pet forms: Polish: Tadzio. Irish: Thady.
