FUJIMORI SEIKICHI
(1892–1977)
Fujimori Seikichi was a novelist and playwright from Nagano Prefecture. While attending Tokyo University, he penned the novel Nami (Waves, 1914), for which he became widely known. His most famous play was Nani ga kanojo o so saseta ka (What Caused Her to Do That?), which premiered in 1926. Thereafter, he continued to focus on drama, particularly with socialist themes, and founded the first all-Japan proletarian arts league. He also ran for office in 1928 as a representative from Nagano Prefecture. After World War II, he continued to be active in literary and relief organizations in Japan. He died tragically in his old age, hit by a truck while taking a walk.
