British film producer and director, of Hungarian origin. Born in Hungary, he studied at the Royal University in Budapest. He initially worked as a journalist, but later turned to film production. He founded the trade journals Pest Movie, The Movie and Film Week. He produced a number of Hungarian films. He eventually went to Hollywood, and later he settled in London where he founded London Films Limited. He was knighted in 1942.
