Kraus, Karl
(1874-1936)
   Austrian satirist and poet. He was born in a provincial Bohemian town; when he was three his family moved to Vienna. He studied law at the University of Vienna and began writing at the age of 18. He founded a satirical magazine Die Fackel. In 1921 he converted to Roman Catholicism. He wrote plays and lyric poetry which was collected in nine volumes.
