Krein, Alexander
(1883-1951)
   Russian composer, brother of Grigori Krein. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory, where he served as professor (1912-17). He was then secretary of the Russian Board of Education (1918-20), and a member of the board of the State Publishing Department (1918-27). He was one of the leaders of the Jewish musical movement and an active member of the Society for Jewish Folk Music. His music contains Jewish traditional folk motifs.
