Meir, Yaakov
(1856-1939)
   Palestinian rabbi. Born in Jerusalem, he was a Zionist and advocated the revival of spoken Hebrew. In 1906 he was elected Hakham Bashi. From 1908 to 1919 he served as chief rabbi of Salonica, and in 1921 he became Sephardi chief rabbi in Palestine.
