Rubinstein, Anton Grigoryevich
(1829-94)
   Russian pianist and composer. Born in Vykhvatinetz, Podolia, his family moved to Moscow. In 1844 the family moved to Berlin; when his father died the family went to Russia, but Anton spent two years in Vienna giving piano lessons. In 1848 he went to Moscow and with Elena Pavlovna helped found the Russian Musical Society, later the St Petersburg Conservatory. Subsequently he resumed his solo career.
