Ruzhin, Israel of
(1797-1851)
   Russian Hasidic rabbi. He established a Hasidic centre at Ruzhin, where he lived in luxury. In 1838 he was accused of giving the order to put to death two Jewish informers. Imprisoned for 22 months, he was later released and settled in Sadagora in Bukhovina, which also became a Hasidic centre.
