Bloch, Jean-Richard
(1884-1947)
   French author. He was born in Paris. When the Germans occupied France, Bloch escaped to Moscow, but later returned. His writings deal with the place of Jewry in contem-porary society. His novel Levy (1911) concerns the effects of the Dreyfus case on a Jewish family in a provincial French town. In & Co. (1918) he describes a Jewish cloth merchant from Alsace, who moves to a small town in western France.
