German philos-opher. He was born in Coswig. He was professor of philosophy at the University of Marburg until 1912 and later taught at the Hochschule für Wissenschaft des Judentums. In 1880 he began to resume his hitherto lapsed links with Judaism and to defend the Jewish people and tradition. His writings include Religion der Vernunft aus den Quellen des Judentums.
