Crescas, Hasdai ben Abraham
(c.1340-c.1412)
   Spanish rabbi and theologian. He was born in Barcelona and was active as a merchant and communal leader there. In 1367 he was imprisoned on a charge of desecrating the Host, but was later released. With the accession of John I in 1387 he became associated with the royal household of the Court of Aragon. He later settled in Zaragoza where he served as rabbi. In 1391 his son was killed in anti-Jewish riots in Barcelona, which he described in a Hebrew account. His Light of the Lord is a refutation of Maimonides.
