(fl. 2nd cent, BCE)
Israelite priest and rebel leader. He was priest of Modün and led the uprising of the Hasmoneans against Antiochus IV in 166-164 BCE. He led the revolt in the Judean hills, waging war on the Syrians. He was succeeded by his son Judah Maccabee.
