(WKI)
The Washington Kurdish Institute was created in 1996 as a nonprofit, research, educational, and advocacy organization concerning the Kurds. It is located in Washington, D.C. Dr. Najmaldin O. Karim serves as its president.
Since its creation, the WKI has sponsored conferences on a variety of issues such as the long-term health effects of the chemical weapons attack on Halabja, promoted cultural initiatives such as Kurdish language classes, and lobbied the U.S. government on Kurdish issues, among others. The WKI has an Internet homepage at www.kurd.org and also maintains close relations with the Institut Kurde de Paris.
