* * *

[TA] urinary bladder: a musculomembranous sac in the anterior part of the pelvic cavity, serving as a reservoir for urine; it receives the excretory products of the kidneys through the ureters and expels them through the urethra. The three anatomical areas of the bladder are the apex at the superior end, the body or corpus in the center, and the fundus at the inferior end. Part of the fundus is the trigone of the bladder, a triangular area bounded by the orifices of the ureters and the internal orifice of the urethra. Called also bladder.
