vesicovaginal fistula
an abnormal communication between the bladder and the vagina causing urinary incontinence. This may result from surgical damage to the bladder during a gynaecological operation (e.g. hysterectomy) or radiation damage following radiotherapy for pelvic malignancy. In Third World countries it is often caused by necrosis associated with prolonged obstructed labour.
