Stress means "pressure," "the force exerted upon one object by another." For discussion of strain, See sprain. Examples of use: "Under heavy stress, the cable broke." "It is a strain to work sixteen hours a day." The German expression Sturm und Drang literally means "storm and stress" but can equally well mean "strain and stress."
