This conjunction is definite and specific in its meaning of "since" or "for the reason that." It is used solely to express cause or reason: "He left the party early because he was tired." As a subordinating conjunction, because should not be used to mean "that" (a relative pronoun); say "The reason is that," not "The reason is because." We do not say "The cause is because"; logically, we should state not the cause for the reason but the reason itself."The reason for my absence was illness" is more concise and more logical than "The reason for my absence was because of illness" or "... because I was ill." Also, note that "because of the fact that" is an excessively wordy expression.
