Gustav III
(1746-1792)
The king of Sweden from 1771 until his assasination during a masked ball in 1792, Gustav III had deep literary and cultural interests and forged strong cultural ties with France. Having had Olof von Dalin as his tutor, the king later collaborated with Johan Henric Kellgren on several librettos. King Gustav III was a patron of the great poet Carl Michael Bellman and is often credited with having created Swedish theater.
