A drama by the Norwegian Henrik Ibsen, Et dukkehjem (1879; tr. A Doll's House, 1880) explores the role of women in the home and in society, concluding that a woman has not only the right but the duty to leave her husband and family ifshe is prevented by her marriage from realizing her full potential as a human being.
