Tamagushi
A branch of sacred
sakaki tree with zig-zag strips (shide) of paper or cloth, or lengths of tree fibres (yu) attached. Tamagushi may be used as offerings, or as amulets. 'Tama' may refer to the
sakaki hung with jewels mentioned in the
Nihongi account of creation.
