thal·li·um (Tl) (thalґe-əm) [Gr. thallos green shoot] a heavy, soft, bluish white metal; atomic number, 81; atomic weight, 204.37; specific gravity, 11.85; used in some manufacturing processes and formerly used as a rodenticide. Its salts are active poisons, causing thallium poisoning; see under poisoning.
