1. facial expression, often a guide to a patient's state of health as well as his emotions. The typical facies seen in adenoids is the vacant look, with the mouth drooping open. A Hippocratic facies is the sallow face, sagging and with listless staring eyes, that some read as the expression of approaching death.
2. (in anatomy) a specified surface of a bone or other body part.

[TA] face. the anterior, or ventral, aspect of the head, generally from the forehead to the chin, including the eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, and chin but excluding the auricles. The forehead is excluded by some authorities. 3. the expression or appearance of the face; see expression (def. 1).
